One year ago today...

we were in California, surrounded by family and friends, expressing our love --publicly declaring our devotion to God and each other-- toasting, eating, dancing, smiling, kissing...and now, a year later, we're getting ready to do very similar things. Not that we're having a wedding again, but we are headed to CA on Tuesday, we'll be with family and friends for almost two weeks, we'll express love and eat, smile, kiss, probably even dance and toast!
People warned us that having our anniversary around Christmas would likely diminsh the specialness of it, but honestly I can't think of a better time to celebrate our love and companionship. Most people are happy and thankful at Christmas time-- they want to be around each other and they enjoy every minute of togetherness-- they think of others and give more selflessly than at other times.
We had some really fun plans for our anniversary-- dinner at one of my favorite restaurants (Lebanese Taverna) and The Nutcracker at the Lyric Opera House in Bmore. AND then, the biggest snowstorm Baltimore has ever seen in the month of December hit! Seriously, the snowfall broke the December record (we got 20 inches!!!). SO, we improvised and created a memorable first anniversary...

We hiked a mile (each way), as the snow was still falling, to Fortunato's Italian Pizza and enjoyed a Hawaiian Pizza (amazingly they were open!). Then we checked out a movie from Red Box, grabbed a few groceries (including some yummy ice cream!), and hiked back home. At one point on our walk, Brandon exclaimed, "It's like we're part of a Thomas Kinkade painting!" I commented, "We could be two of the figures in your mom's Christmas villages!" It really was magical and makes for a great memory...and it was pretty cold, so it was great to get home to our lovely, warm apartment.

Then, church was cancelled SO we spent today sleeping in, packing for our trip, cleaning off our cars, and delivering some gifts. A very nice anniversary weekend, and a great start to the Christmas break!!!

Oh, we also celebrated the last night of Chanukah last night, since we were home all night and could keep an eye on the candles burning!

The View fom the Woodlands yesterday, while the snow was still coming down...

  1. Wow! All that snow! There's a bunch of that up north; NAU cancelled finals for a day and a half! But not here in the valley of the sun! We do have cloud cover, which is a change, I think it might rain..we'll see. Well, actually we won't see because we are also getting ready to see family in CA! Yeah! Can't wait to see you!
