Spring has sprung, and with the blossoms and warmer weather also come a tradition of mine that we participated in last Saturday. There are three things that are among some of my most favorite, and for several years in a row now I have squeezed them all into one day/weekend: Cherry Blossoms at the Tidal Basin, Eastern Market, and
General Conference.Sean came into town the night before, and Saturday we all headed down to DC-- we spent the morning walking around the mall and enjoying the blossoms and flowers, met up with friends at a local LDS church in DC to watch conference (Ashlee, Kim, and Louise, and Chris & Elizabeth Crittenden), walked around Eastern Market during the afternoon and met other DC friends for lunch (Mary and Quinn). Then we watched more conference and headed back to Bmore. Below is a "photo journal" of our day trip.

Sean's first time on the DC metro!

"The Blossoms" we went down to DC to marvel at with hundreds of other
folks who were down there too.

The less well known Tulip Garden that is beautiful.

Several pics of us by the Tidal Basin's cherry blossom trees.

The bros.

We snagged someone to shoot one of the three of us.

Right by the Tidal Basin is this plot of land they call "The Tulip Library". I love it because there are various squares of all different variety of tulips-- probably around 20 different squares, and as I said up above, it is less well known than the cherry blossoms.

The Cherry Blossom Festival was going on while we were down there, and for the second year in a row (we were told) there was "Yoga on the Mall". We walked up to it just to get a good look-- hundreds of people with their yoga mats, sitting underneath the Washington Monument!

Sean earning his "keep" by making some OJ for our Easter brunch.

Our lovely Easter brunch table, conplete with daylilies
Brandon had brought home during the week (which all opened up on Sunday)!

(I look horrible in this pic, but it is the only one of us Eater morning, so I feel obligated to post it!) We had a yummy brunch, watched more of GC togther, and then Sean took off back to Philly while we headed to our friend's house for Easter dinner. It was a great way to celebrate this wonderful holiday-- friends and family, Spring blossoms, good food, and spritual talks.
What a fun weekend! I'm jealous. And I wish I could have been there for yoga.
ReplyDeleteLooks lovely. What a cool thing to go see nature and yoga in DC. I am vicariously living through you!
ReplyDeleteCorrection: That is the second time I've been on the Metro. Thanks for an awesome weekend!
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! Someday I need to see those blossoms. We have one cherry tree in our yard- so I can imagine how seeing hundreds of them would be amazing! And we're still waiting for IT to blossom. You're looking amazing Mags- so happy and busy and wonderful, as usual. Love you!
