I used to be a pretty good journal writer, but then I started to fall behind, missing a day or a week, and it felt like a huge task to catch up...I am starting to feel like that with our blog, because even as I type this, Brandon's family (minus his sister and bro-in-law) is in our apartment visiting us in Bmore. SO, it is expedient that I complete the "story" of our PR trip in this post, so that I can do another post about the Woodland trip, and sleep more peacefully at night knowing our loyal readers are all caught up :)
For those of you who don't already know, Brandon is a master at researching and planning trips and adventures. Because of that, we were able to explore some parts of PR that the tour books don't talk about, like some "secret" beaches that we got to by hiking through mangrove forests. We also (in pics above) got to eat some local food, mostly with the help of Brandon's Spanish skills. There is some really good seafood available, but at the local kioskos (roadside stands) there was nothing but fried, fried, and more fried food stuffed with all different kinds of meats. The local cuisine also used plantains in all sorts of ways I'd never thought to use them (not that I've spent that much time thinking of how to use plantains!): a cornmeal type dish called "mofongo", surrounding a potpie type dish, fried and stuffed with meat, etc.
Beautiful beaches...scenes that I tried to capture in pictures and tried even harder to memorize the sound of the waves, feel of the sand, warmth of the sun, coolness of the breeze, and sound of the palm fronds. The beach is definitely my "happy place" and I told Brandon that I wanted him to help me remember these beaches so I can recall them during labor!
