Grandma Karen (aka Special K)
In the late afternoon of the first day of Alyse's life, my mom arrived at the hospital. Brandon had called her as soon as my water broke that morning, my mom grabbed her already packed bag, and got herself ready to fly out here on a free standby ticket courtesy of my step-sister, Steph (go Delta!). Then, Grandma Karen spent the next week and a half cooking, cleaning, and caring for Alyse and us.
Alyse's middle name is Karen...I really wanted to give her a middle name of a strong, amazing woman from our family. It just felt right to name her after my mom--she is one of the most courageous, nurturing, accomplished women I know. We are so lucky to have Grandma Karen!
Grandma Debbie
A little over a week after Alyse was born, Brandon's mom came to visit from Cali. My mom had extended her trip, so the grandmas ended up overlapping for a few days. They were both so gracious in sharing their time with us, which allowed us to have both of them for Thanksgiving (and also allowed us to have a VERY yummy meal prepared by them!). They had me pose with them for this pic, but I didn't do any of the cooking! We were just modeling the super cute aprons Debbie brought as a present...now, when I do start cooking again, I will be in style!
Debbie also out did herself taking care of us. In fact, tonight we are going to enjoy some homemade pizza she made us while she was here! It was so sweet to watch Grandma Debbie with Alyse...not only because they look so much alike, but because Debbie has a way with her granddaughter. In fact, we've found ourselves saying multiple times, "Where is Grandma Debbie when you need her?" when Alyse is fussy and having a hard time settling down.
So, there you have it...not just one, but two Grandmas...we are so blessed!
That is so wonderful to have them both there. Those aprons are darling! Can't wait to see you guys again!!
