On Saturday, April 16th, at 1:30 PM, we pulled the plug on Maximus. For those of you who don't know who Maximus is, he has been with the Woodland family for 11 years and under my direction for the last 4. Maxiums is a maroon 1996 Nissan Maxima which has been very good to us over the years to the tune of 230K miles:
My dad purchased Maximus when I was a junior in high school and was his car until I ventured out to the east coast and he got a new one. Maximus was the "nice" car my little brother, Sean, and I used for special occasions such as dates, proms, and church dances. Maximus diligently made the trip across the country (CA to DC), and has been present for many good recent memories from Maggie and I's first date, camping with the YM, to many miles of commuting on the DC/Baltimore freeways. Needless to say, Maximus has been a champ for a very long time.
Maximus really has not needed any major repairs over the years (or at least that I can recall), but the time has come where the miles were adding up and our recent trip to the shop came with a 3K estimated repair bill (many major items) which is much more than the car is worth today. Thus, the decision was made to pull the plug, especially since we were already planning on being a 1-car family in Chicago, but the decision was expedited Now he is sitting in our parking lot and will soon be donated to charity.
Farewell Maximus
RIP Maixumus!!
